Maintain good health for the mind & your body

Have you ever tried learning something when you’re sick? Or when you’re hungry, angry, or distracted?

Chances are, you’ll learn and retain very little, if any.

Maintaining a good state of mind and a healthy body is also very important. We can only do so much without these.

This piece of advise, is also something I’m working to apply presently in my life. As I’m also living a mostly sedentary lifestyle and eating unhealthy foods and drinks too. I also love cola soft-drinks, sweet desserts, and the popular meal of cheeseburger and potato fries. Now-a-days, apart from watching my expenses to stick more to a monthly budget, I’m doing what I can to reduce my frequent visits to any fast-food restaurant.

I have grown to appreciate more what we call “lutong-bahay”. Or foods normally cooked and meals shared at home — home-cooked food and meals.

Exercise, particularly regular physical exercises done for at least 15 to 30 minutes a day (or a few days in a week) has been clinically shown to improve not only your body health, but also, your mental well-being, aptitude, and memory.

Sleep is also very important. You really can’t just chug coffee (or caffeine in energy drinks) and expect yourself to be able to work without sleeping much. Eventually, you’ll get sick. And chronically, you’ll notice a decline in your own cognition skills, memory, and so on. So, as much as possible, get a good night’s sleep. Around 7 hours is your magic number, in terms of sleep duration.

Maintaining good physical and mental health can’t be stressed enough, in terms of its importance. Not only to your own learning journey – but in all other areas of life. Be it maintaining healthy relationships with friends to represent social areas, intimacy with your special someone, mental prowess in exams and study, and so on.

Eat healthy. Sleep at night if possible, get 7 hours of sleep if you can. Avoid or reduce sugary drinks. Exercise more, it need not be over the top — simple light exercises that get your heart and blood pumping combined with consistency are the keys. Finally, try to learn the value of a positive mind, cultivate a good attitude, and live mindfully with purpose.

Apart from these suggestions, try to also get some early-morning sun-light. Around as long as you do your exercises — around 15 minutes. I do caution you, to only get under the sun to soak up sun-light during the early morning. Getting too much sunlight later on during the day may do more harm than good over time.

I hope these stuff helps.

Many of what’s written here are also stuff that I still need to apply in my own life. Especially areas around exercising regularly and eating healthier.

We’ll get there, but first we need to decide to get started.

That’s it for now, my friends.

Until next time!

Thank you.
