Do you see yourself, or can you feel putting yourself in the shoes of other people? So much so, that it helps drive you to action — to help others?
My friends, empathy is mostly defined as putting yourself in the “shoes”, or in the place of others. And empathy is a very important part, an ingredient that’s always necessary to form good and lasting friendships. It is important in all human relationships. In families, in groups of friends, inside the office, or any other workplace. When there is empathy present for all folks in a group, there is a very good chance that good collaboration is also there.
This is one of the things I have learnt over time. And have realized and seen as I go about working in the corporate setting, or as a small-time freelancer at times. Without empathy, or with the lack of it, any group of people is bound to suffer. Often, it is the sub-ordinates who do.
And it is also, empathy, that often triggers office management to take better care of their people, or their customers too. Which is always good for their business — if companies take good care of their employees’ well-being, and also the good of their customers.
Another thing well worth mentioning is that empathy drives people to action, when it comes to helping people in need. When it comes to charity. For I think, empathy is one of the pre-cursors of charitable attitude and action.
When you see a sick child. And when it happens you’re also a parent who has children of your own. Don’t you extend a helping hand? Or at least, try to? Or again, at least, desire and want to help?
Imagine yourself in a children’s hospital. And as you walk across the corridors you see countless sick or bed-ridden children, who have a singular desire of either going home, and being able to freely run around their yard and play with either their siblings, or their other friends in the neighborhood?
Empathy makes for a kinder world.
If only we grow it within ourselves. If we practice what empathy teaches us. Which I believe could be compassion, and charity.
Empathy also makes us, or teaches us to take better care of our human relationships. For me, at this time, this means “pakikipag-kapwa tao” and loving family. I mentioned family, because this is really one of the big things that growing empathy taught me. To value and cherish family. To begin doing charity within the household, with family. To freely give, without thinking about the returns. Or at least, to ask God to grant us the grace to do this. To help others, with the right heart. And not with selfish motives, and whatnot.
Finally, empathy, going back to collaborative friendships within a team. Is a definite boon to a company, or a school, or to any organization that I could think of right now. If your team at the workplace has and practices empathy there is bound to be much less burnout for you and for your co-workers. As you would do your best to share and distribute the workload where various strengths are relevant. You would have fewer attrition owing to this, and broadly, have a happier workplace as a result. Which could very much well equate to a very good working culture inside. Because, from empathy could spring forth kindness, and compassion.
Empathy is good for all people. For the giver and for the receiver. For the helper and for the one who needs help.
Let us ask God to help us in our shared journey as human beings, as people of God, on our way back to our heavenly homeland. In the kingdom of the Lord, our God.
And with this comes the end of this post.
Thank you, my friends.
Hello there! How are you? My name is Abraham, or, Abe to all my friends, acquaintances, and family.
I’m a young dad, an uncle, an older kuya, and a son. I love learning and putting things together when it comes to small projects around computers, and tech. And for me, I also love food, everyday drink — like coffee, and most furry creatures — like good doggo doggos (goofy doggos), and chonky (very fat, almost circular and literally round) cattos. ^_^ Anyway, I hope good animals also make you chuckle, my friends.
Recently, I was hired to work as an engineer in I.T., specializing in looking after web-servers, maintenance, and a few other stuff.
Thank God! From my end, I had been dreaming to become an engineer in I.T., and have been studying for it for a time now.
We mustn’t stop with our training and study. For we’ll need to keep learning in order for us to remain helpful.
Nawa, ang Panginoon’g Diyos ang Siyang purihin, dakilain, at pasalamatan sa ating mga gawain, at salita.
My friends, may the Lord our God be glorified, honored, and praised – through the kind of work that He called us unto.
Thank you, and for now, that’s mostly it for me. Salamat po!
